AND COLLECTION Contemporary Art is currently holding its ninth collaborative exhibition with the British interior brand TOM DIXON. This exhibition features works by artists recommended by our gallery, and can be viewed at TOM DIXON TOKYO, based in Minami-Aoyama.
For our ninth installment, we have selected It's A Living, a Mexican artist who stands out with his vibrant colors and unique typography.
It's A Living is a Mexican-born artist currently based in Brooklyn. The phrase "IT'S A LIVING" is not just a statement, but a phrase that embodies his own philosophy of life. His distinctive script-style lettering has a strong personality that makes his work instantly recognizable, from large-scale murals to advertisements for famous brands and even simple stickers on street corners.
He says, "The direct approach of typography was a path of exploration aimed at questioning our everyday lives and making a positive impact. That is what it means to be alive." The ambiguity of the messages conveyed through lettering, typography, and calligraphy encourages each viewer to interpret them individually, creating a continuous dialogue between the work and the viewer. He has collaborated with numerous global companies, including Apple, Nike, Google, and Toyota.
