Born in Akita Prefecture in 1983. Graduated from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Law, Komazawa University, in 2006.
Placing the relationship between humanity and civilization at the center of his practice, Daisuke Sawai presents works that reinterpret fire in human history as a “connector.” Drawing on the physical experiences he has accumulated through skateboarding since childhood, as well as the symbolism of fire embedded in skate culture, Sawai explores questions about what it means to be human that emerge from a sense of unease with humanity’s ever-expanding civilization. Through his artistic practice, he seeks to uncover new ways of understanding human existence and envision forms of hope
