AND COLLECTION Contemporary Art is pleased to present Kadokoten #11 “HUG & TALKING HANDS”, a solo exhibition by Kadokoten Hidehiko.

Kado Hidehiko is a coda born to deaf parents, and from an early age he has expressed his thoughts and feelings through art as a way of communicating with his parents and those around him.

Eventually, this method of expression developed into a unique art style that transcends words and connects people.

The works, which are imbued with gentleness, quietly speak to us about the true essence of "communication" and the richness of heart-to-heart communication.

Please take this opportunity to experience Kado Hidehiko's warm worldview and the power of art to connect people at the gallery.

Hidehiko Kado

Born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1971. Painter and author.
As a CODA* born to deaf parents, she began drawing at a young age to express feelings that could not be conveyed through spoken language or sign language alone. Her works feature original characters inspired by the finger movements and gestures of Japanese Sign Language, and are known as "sign language art." Based on the concept of "Smile Talking Hands," she creates a warm space for communication where everyone can understand each other and feel a connection through her own art, merchandise, and workshops both in Japan and overseas. In addition to teaching part-time at a school for the deaf, she actively holds lectures and live painting events across the country. She has collaborated extensively with companies and media outlets, including Starbucks and NHK, spreading the warmth of infinite communication that transcends words to the world.
*CODA (Children of Deaf Adults): Children who grow up with parents who are deaf or hard of hearing.
